Pinal County Birding Trail

Birding TrailThe Pinal County Birding Trail showcases the area's best sites to find birds and other wildlife. By using this interactive map, the trail allows visitors to set their own itinerary to explore the best the County has to offer. All sites along the trail are public with easy access and parking. Most sites also offer walking and hiking trails as well as other amenities such as restrooms or picnic areas. Whether you're new to birding or an experienced birder, the Pinal County Birding Trail is the perfect tool to explore the region. The Pinal County Birding Trail was developed in collaboration with the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

Birding in Pinal County

Pinal County has a growing number of birding hotspots that offer reliable viewing and verifiable species counts. These sites occur in multiple biotic communities to fully represent the amazing 422 species of birds Pinal County hosts throughout the year, including our uniquely adapted resident species. Two of the birding trail's major highlights, the lower San Pedro River and the Gila River, have surrounding riparian habitat considered to be some of the most biodiverse areas in the American southwest. Seasonal breeding sites, migration corridors, and wintering habitat can be viewed throughout Pinal County so no matter what time of year, there’s always great birding!

In the interactive map below, click on each bird icon for a brief site overview, including site manager, elevation, and habitat type. In the pop-up window, "Google Maps" links to a map for easy-to-use directions to the site. 

Click "More Site Information" which links to a page dedicated to each site along the trail. Here you'll find more valuable information such as access info, site photos, site amenities, species highlights, and valuable web links. We've also included a link to eBird where you can see latest bird sightings at each site.
