Surrendering a Pet

Keeping Your Pet

If you would like to keep your pet but need assistance, we may be able to help! Pinal County Animal Care and Control (PCACC) has a variety of programs dedicated to keep pets with their owners. Please email Animal Care about your current situation and we will see if we can help! We would love to keep your furry friend(s) with you. Also check out our Outreach and Community Resources page!

Rehoming a Pet

We recommend trying to rehome your pet or reaching out to local rescues. You know your pet best and are best equipped to choose a new owner for your pet. To start the process of rehoming your pet, post your animal on Home-to-Home.

Posting on Home-to-Home is a requirement for owners on the PCACC surrender waitlist.

You can find local rescues on Petfinder.com, Google, or Facebook. Try networking your pet on websites such as AdoptAPet, Get Your Pet, Facebook, Craigslist, Nextdoor, or Twitter! Anywhere potential adopters can see. Don't forget to ask friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers to help spread the word about your pet needing a home.

Surrendering a Pet

If you are needing to surrender a pet, please keep in mind the shelter is full and has an extended wait list for owner surrenders and appointments are REQUIRED. We highly encourage owners rehome their pets on their own and choose new owners for their pets. We have plenty of tips and advice to help you rehome your pet.

Pinal County only takes pets within Pinal County Jurisdiction. Our facility is run with a "Capacity of Care" protocol, meaning you must make an appointment to surrender your pet. PCACC has the right to refuse a pet without an appointment or when our shelter is at capacity. If the owner lives in a jurisdiction that has its own Animal Control Agency they must surrender their pet to that agency. We will not accept animals from outside our jurisdiction.

If your pet was adopted from a rescue or another shelter, you must reach out to the rescue or shelter and make them aware that you are no longer able to care for your pet. Most rescues require their adopted animals go back to the rescue they were adopted from.
