Dr. John Hu joined Pinal County as Chief Medical Examiner and Director of the Pinal County Medical Examiner's Office in 2016.
In his role as Chief Medical Examiner, John oversees a team of 13 employees, including medical legal investigators, a pathologist, and administrative staff who work to ensure that deaths in the jurisdiction are investigated thoroughly and impartially. Dr. Hu is also involved in providing expert testimony in court cases and working with law enforcement, funeral homes, health care providers, and other government agencies such as public health and child fatality review teams to help solve crimes, bring closure to families, and share data of public health interest.
Before joining Pinal County, John worked for Maricopa County's Forensic Science Center for 16 years. A pathologist, Dr. Hu obtained his medical degree in the 8-year curriculum at Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China, and his Ph.D. at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in anatomic pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, and fellowship training in forensic pathology at Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office in Detroit, Michigan.
